Bukit Bendera ''Penang Hill''

ASSALAMUALAIKUM and hello!

let's get to know about Bukit Bintang aka Penang Hill!

Penang Hill is one of Penang island's featured attractions. Well known for its cool and fresh climate from the tropical heat of George Town, it is a popular holiday retreat to the locals as well as tourists. Penang Hill is also known for its magnificently spectacular panoramic view of George Town, the mainland, the Penang Bridge and the Straits of Malacca which can be viewed from the Penang Hill Summit. The hill, also known as Bukit Bendera or Flagstaff Hill, is  833 m (2,723 ft) above sea level and stands out prominently from the lowlands as a hilly and forested area.

Access to the hill is most enjoyable by the Penang Hill Railway, a two section funicular railway which climbs Penang Hill from Air Itam. The railway was opened to the public on October 21, 1923 and the total journey takes about half an hour, with passengers changing cars at the mid-point station. The train may also stop at other intermediate stations upon request or the alighting of residents living around the hill.

Alternatively, there is a 5.1 km (3.17 mile) tarred road popularly known as the "jeep track". It is open only to the vehicles of hill residents. The "jeep track" is also a popular hiking route. It begins at the quarry of the entrance of Penang Botanic Gardens and it takes a two or three hour leisure hike to reach the top.

The sights on Penang Hill itself is a nice relaxing view. Because of its cool weather, beautifully landscaped flowers of all colours bloom in full glory in the gorgeous flower garden.

Not only are the plants fresh with life but the modestly tiny bird park situated before the entrance of the old Bellevue hotel is alive with cheerful singing and the colourful dashes of the playful birds.

Besides that there is a tea kiosk, several restaurants, souvenir stalls, a mosque, and a Hindu temple for visitors to visit. A number of picturesque bungalows and guesthouses were built around Flagstaff Hill and some are up for rent for those who intend to stay for more than a day.

Where to Shopping in Penang! c:

 ASSALAMUALAIKUM and HELLO!

Penang is a major shopping destination in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia. It has several modern shopping malls offering a wide range of merchandise. Among the more popular ones on Penang island are Queensbay Mall (Penang's largest), Gurney Plaza at the famed Gurney Drive, 1st Avenue Penang a brand new mall in the heart of the Penang, KOMTAR (Penang's first modern shopping mall) and Penang Times Square (an integrated commercial and residential complex near Komtar). Notable shopping malls in Seberang Perai are Sunway Carnival Mall at Seberang Jaya and AEON Seberang Prai City at Bandar Perda.
Traditional bazaars such as the Chowrasta Market and Campbell Street, and makeshift open-air night markets known as pasar malam were the precursors to today's shopping malls. They offer goods ranging from modern electronics and textiles to foodstuffs and local produce.

Happy shopping!

Architecture of Penang

ASSALAMUALAIKUM and hello!

today we want to talk about architecture of penang. this is one of the attractive in penang.

The architecture of Penang is a durable testament of her history – a culmination of over a century and a half of British presence, as well as the confluence of immigrants and the culture they brought with them. Fort Cornwallis at the Esplanade was the first structure the British built in Penang.[128][129] Outstanding examples of colonial period buildings include the Municipal Council and Town Hall buildings, the buildings in the old commercial district, the Penang Museum, the Eastern and Oriental Hotel, and St George's Anglican Church – all of which are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Suffolk House, the former residence of Penang's British governors, on the banks of the Air Itam river is an example of the Anglo-Indian garden house. The stately Seri Mutiara (formerly known as the Residency), completed in 1890 as the residence of Penang's British Resident Councillors, is today the official residence of the Governor.Chinese influence is visible at the many ornate clan houses, temples, pre-war shophouses, and mansions such as the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion. The Clan Jetties are a collection of water villages at Weld Quay. The Indian community built many elaborate temples such as the Mahamariamman temple, while Muslim influence can be seen at the Kapitan Keling Mosque, the Acheh Mosque, and the Penang Islamic Museum. The P. Ramlee Museum is an excellent example of traditional Malay stilt houses. Siamese and Burmese architecture can be appreciated at the Sleeping Buddha and Dharmikarama temples. Modern structures and skyscrapers also abound in Penang, sometimes side by side with heritage buildings. Notable examples include the KOMTAR tower, the UMNO tower and the Mutiara Mesiniaga building

Greater Penang (Conurbation of George Town)

ASSALAMUALAIKUM and

in this post, let us let you about George Town. stay tuned!

The National Physical Plan of Malaysia envisages a Conurbation of George Town encompassing George Town and surrounding areas. The greater metropolitan area of Penang consists of highly urbanised Penang Island, Seberang Prai, Sungai Petani, Kulim and the surrounding areas. With a population of approximately two million, it is the second largest metropolitan area in Malaysia after the Conurbation of Kuala Lumpur (Klang Valley).
This urban area is coterminous with the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER), one of three development regions identified in Peninsular Malaysia, under a repackaging of the Ninth Malaysian Plan (a five-year national development plan). NCER encompasses Penang (Penang Island and Seberang Prai), Kedah (Alor Star, Sungai Petani and Kulim), Perlis (Kangar) and Northern Perak. However the Barisan Nasional-controlled federal government decided to defer the Penang Outer Ring Road and Penang Monorail projects following the change of state government in 2008, attributing the decision to economic considerations.
George Town has been ranked as the most liveable city in Malaysia, eighth most liveable in Asia and the 62nd in the world in 2010 by ECA International, an improvement in ranking from recent years

Museums and galleries

ASSALAMUALAIKUM and

today we want to shared to all of you museuns and galleries in Penang.

The Penang Museum and Art Gallery in George Town houses relics, photographs, maps, and other artefacts that document the history and culture of Penang and its people. The Museum at the former Syed Alatas Mansion highlights the history of Islam in Penang from its beginnings until today. The tragedy of the Second World War is vividly depicted in the Penang War Museum, a former fortress constructed by the British in anticipation of an amphibious invasion by the Japanese that never materialised. The Universiti Sains Malaysia Museum and Gallery, located within the university campus contains an extensive exhibition relating to ethnographic and performing arts, and features various art works by Malaysian artists. Also, Penang Toy Museum is located at Tanjung Bungah and there is a forestry museum within the Teluk Bahang Forest Park The Penang State Art Gallery at Dewan Sri Pinang showcases a permanent collection of local artists as well as special exhibitions. The birthplace of Malaysia's legendary singer-actor P. Ramlee has been restored and turned into a museum

ROTI CANAI TRANSFER ROAD

Some people swear by this roti canai while others swear at the stall’s poor hygiene. I didn’t think much about the roti canai and the place could be cleaner, but the curries!! My oh my, they pack a wallop of flavour.

AIR ITAM ASAM LAKSA

 8063104186_db654067a9_c

This is still the best tasting Asam Laksa in Penang. The soup is thick, flavourful and spicy, with a good texture from the shredded fish. I love how the pungent-sweet shrimp paste adds “oomph” to the asam laksa. The best way to have it is with less noodles, extra vegetables. My regular order is two bowls and that will make me sweat buckets.

HAMEED PATA MEE GORENG

 8063545993_a064c5d423_c

So far, Hameed Pata Mee Goreng is the best Mee Goreng I’ve tried in Penang. The noodles are cooked with red sauce and spicy sotong. The sotong is tasty from the savoury-sweet gravy and if you can’t take spicy, it’s best to have a cold drink on standby.

AIS TINGKAP

Ais Tingkap is a rose coloured drink containing coconut flesh and basil seeds (biji selasih). Preparation involves a number of steps: The guy fills the glass with shaved ice, sugar syrup, getah anggur, rose essence and basil seeds. Then he sprays a mixture of Indian herbs, adds coconut water, coconut flesh and tops the glass with more shaved ice.The end result is a very refreshing and aromatic thirst quencher with a bit of texture from the basil seed and coconut flesh.

Ah Leng Char Kuay Teow

8063228924_bf8a27638c_c

Currently my favourite char kuay teow place in Penang, Ah Leng makes a mean plate of this Penang delight. You can opt to have a normal plate of char kuay teow for RM6, or the special char kuay teow which comes with mantis prawns for RM10. A special plate comes with 4-5 large prawns and a few pieces of mantis prawns. The kuay teow boasts a good dose of wok hei, and the duck egg and mantis prawn impart a rich, creamy flavour to the noodles.

Ma Keok from Te Chang You Tiao Wang

 8063452986_faf373a4f6_c
Te Chang You Tiao Wang is known for its fried cruller, but I like the ma keok (black and white sesame twins) better. This crunchy treat has a bread-like consistency at the centre, and is mildly sweet. Priced at RM2 for three pieces, I find it pretty good value for money.

Oh Chien and Pei Pa Duck, Kedai Kopi Bee San

Bee San - Oh Chien (2)

The Oh Chien at Bee San in Air Itam is by far the best I’ve eaten in Penang. I know many Penangites like the oh chien at Seng Thor, but this one is my personal favourite. The egg batter is cooked withlarge oysters and chopped spring onions, and boasts a crisp exterior and soft centre.

Bee San - Pei Pa Duck

Also good is the Pei Pa Duck which runs out by 7 or 8pm. The duck is deep fried before being served, so the skin is extra crispy. Eat it with the accompanying sauce – savoury and sweet with a hint of peanut, shallots and garlic.
